Bird Area Třeboň Region - Fabián
The territory is located in the south of Bohemia alongside the border with Austria, between the villages of Suchdol nad Lužnicí, Třeboň, Lomnice nad Luž., Kardašova Řečice a Lásenice. The proposed bird area covers two thirds of the Třeboň Protected Landscape Area. Its overwhelming majority is formed by the tectonic depressed area of the Třeboňská basin filled out with sediments of the secondary and tertiary age (sandstones, cobblestones, claystones, etc.). The Třeboň region with more than 400 fishponds belongs to the sites of an extraordinary importance in terms of the water fowl occurrence not only in the Czech Republic but in the central Europe. A total of 280 bird species have been observed in the Třeboň region, of which more than 180 species are nesting here. The rarest species include a White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), for instance. Also the Fabián Nature Reserve is a part of the bird area.
