Pool at the Starling Nests

The Tůně u Špačků (Pool at the Starling Nests) nature monument is located at the south-east edge of the town of České Budějovice. It is the residues of the original meandering Malše river bed on the alluvial plain and a minor flooded sand pit. The reason for the protection is to preserve the pool and alluvial forest ecosystem. The subject of protection is both the notable flora (e.g. Water Soldier (Stratiotes aloides) and fauna species (Amur Bitterling (Rhodeus sericeus), Crucian Carp (Carassius carassius), European Green Toad (Bufo viridis), European Tree Frog (Hyla arborea), European Common Frog (Rana temporaria), Spotted Flycatcher (Muscicapa striata), European Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus), Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos minor), etc.)
