Semenec Lookout Tower
One of the smallest lookout towers in Bohemia was built on the not high Semenec hill (439 m ASL) which rises above the north-west edge of Týn nad Vltavou. The confluence of the Vltava and Lužnice rivers is located right below. The place was formerly called “Na Spravedlnosti” (meaning “at the place where the justice is done”), referring to the former place of execution. As early as in 1922, a wooden summerhouse stood here before it was relocated to the rock in the Bedrník wood. The 7 m high, concrete lookout tower, designed by the architect Jaroslav Vojna, was then erected at that place. The observation floor is located only 5 m above the ground. In 2006, the observation tower was reconstructed and it is now open to the tourists all year round. Although the lookout tower is not too high, it offers a view of the Vltava River meander, Týn nad Vltavou or the Temelín nuclear power plant.
