Munický Pond

The Munický Pond is located south of Hluboká nad Vltavou and is included in the major fishpond system, formerly formed by 6 separate fish ponds. With its area of 117 hectares, it ranks among the largest of them. The ponds are supplied with water from the Munický stream and a system of ditches leading from the nearby Bezdrev Pond. On the south side of the pond, there is the Ohrada ZOO where the fish pond areas are used as the water fowl runs. The Water Chestnut (Trapa natans) grows in the Munický Pond and some other entomologically interesting communities have been discovered in the overmature oak-trees growing on the pond damp. A small Jewish cemetery lies beneath the Munický Pond damp towards the Podhradský Pond.
