Malý Kosíř Nature Reserve

The slopes of the Malý Kosíř nature reserve with precious thermophilic communities and water pools with a notable fauna and flora create a natural biocentre inside the vast arable land area. The top and the east-oriented slope of Malý Kosíř is located approximately 0.5 km south-west of the village of Slatinice na Hané. The Malý Kosíř nature reserve was declared around the hill top. There are the two abandoned quarries with the pools in the top part of the territory. The territory is predominantly covered with grass and its minor part is formed by old and neglected orchards. Over 230 species of higher plants have been found so far, here. They also include notable special protected species, such as Anemone sylvestris, Prunus fruticosa, Clematis recta, Orchis morio, Platanthera bifolia, Campanula moravica etc. Also, 80 species of butterflies, 94 species of beetles and 37 species of ants (the number of ant species has dropped to 22 in the last 20 years) were observed here. The top of Malý Kosíř provides a spectacular panoramic view of the surroundings.
