Vápenice Nature Monument

Grassy communities of thermophilic turfs. In the past, the area was used for livestock grazing and minor limestone quarrying in not large quarries. The northern part contains the remnants of grass-covered orchards and the balks preventing the soil erosion are preserved here and there. Various lichen species grow on the exposed areas of limestones. A minor colony of the European ground squirrel (Spermophilus citellus) used to live here in the past. The occurrence of the praying mantis Mantis religiosa, regularly confirmed from 1999, is also noteworthy. The area needs to be maintained by clearing the shrubs Robinia pseudacacia, Cornus sanguinea, Ligustrum vulgare.
