Na Skále National Nature Monument

The protected area consists of a rugged terrain depression on the site of a former limestone quarry (Devonian limestone) with fragments of previously extensive thermophilic grass-herb and shrub communities. Of 260 higher plant species which have been recorded here, the most notable is Thymus pulegioides subsp. carniolicus, which only occurs here and cannot be found anywhere else in the Czech Republic. The other notable plants include Achillea pannonica, Aster amellus, Carex humilis, Prunus fruticosa, Knautia kitaibelii, Orobanche elatior, Prunella grandiflora, Pseudolysimachion spicatum, Rosa gallica etc. Over 50 butterfly species were found here. A total of 34 species of ants were recorded here in the past although in recent years only 20 species have been confirmed, but this includes several protected species.
